When I was a career firefighter for the United States Government, I was a member of the I.A.F.F. who were paramount in obtaining and maintaining basic firefighter essentials- such as better (read: not cheap and flimsy) personal protective gear, helping with pay issues (Federal Firefighters would be collecting welfare if it werent for the IAFF) helping to establish better working conditions (clean, healthy firehouses) and appropriate compensation for forced overtime. I was always proud to be a member of the IAFF and honestly say that without them, my job of 10 years would certainly have been more miserable. <BR/><BR/>I can say, however, that there is one thing I certainly disagree with the IAFF over- and that is their support for all things democratic. "REPUBLICAN FIREFIGHTERS! BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE CAN BE ON WELFARE!"<BR/><BR/>(I agree that many unions in the construction trades "get carried away" with their views, policies and procedures.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
